Moliére's "The Miser"

Object Theatre assumes a different view of the world which surrounds us, it is an invitation to perceive in each object traces of the humanity which has created it.  It is this human dimension of objects which the production wishes to reveal to us.

In this adaptation of Molière’s ‘The Miser’, it is no longer money that everyone covets, but water.  The protagonists of this visionary comedy become taps (at times dressed with a simple cloth), pipes and hoses... containers of every kind.

Two actors manipulate these objects in view of the audience and give life to no less than twelve characters, offering us a fresh and funny version of this great classic.

The work has been performed more than 500 times in Spain, as well as in France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Croatia, Switzerland, Canada, Austria, Czech Republic, UK, Hungary, Norway, Finland, Poland and Slovenia.  It has also been awarded prizes on several occasions:

  • Best Production, Jury and Audience Prize, Belo Horizonte Festival, 2003 (Brazil).
  • Prize for Best Production of the Season, Teatro del Mar Theatre Goers Association, 2003 (Palma de Mallorca)
  • PIF Festival Prize, Zagreb, 2005 (Croatia)
  • Ostrava Festival Prize, 2005 (Czech Republic)
  • Prize for Most Original Production, Lutke Festival, 2008 (Slovenia)
  • Audience Prize, Lutke Festival, 2008 (Slovenia)

It is a production in which the pleasure of acting, connecting with the audience and laughing together take precedence,  while also dealing with a theme as serious as the lack of natural resources.
